Laghu-Vākya-Vṛttiḥ

with Swamini Svatmavidyanandaji

To download the text, CLICK HERE.

This text, attributed to Adi Sankara, is a lucid exposition of the mahāvākya “aham
brahmāsmi.” A mahāvākya is a sentence that unfolds the aikya, oneness, between the
helpless jīva, the individual, and the omniscient and all pervasive Lord, Īśvara. The
assimilation of this vision removes self-ignorance along with the misapprehension of
oneself as finite and alienated from the whole. The author’s ability to convey the most
difficult concepts with ease and clarity, along with his eloquent and engaging style,
make this text worthy of study. In this retreat, we will be studying the text with the view
to assimilate its profound message.

Bhagavad Gita 18:5
with Swami Muktatmanandaji

In order to gain Self knowledge and thereby moksha, a person should adjust his/her
lifestyle so that he or she can gain this sacred knowledge without any obstacles. Our
lifestyle influences our capacity to receive and retain this knowledge. Actions performed
with a spirit of offering, charity, and religious discipline become the means for selfpurification. With such self-purification, one receives knowledge and retains it also. That
becomes the basis to gain liberation
