TOPICS:
The Significance of OM in Vedanta with Swami Muktatmananda
The sacred syllable OM lies at the heart of the teaching. All mantras and all prayers can ultimately be reduced to this single syllable, which the Veda has loaded with meaning to signify all that is: the three worlds, the three bodies, the three states of experience, and their basis, Brahman. As Lord Yama declares in the Katha Upanișad:
“This syllable alone is indeed the saguna Brahman and it alone is the nirguna Brahman.”
Swamiji will unfold the different ways in which this all-encompassing sound represents Brahman, that which pervades and sustains the universe.
