Yoga

Hatha Yoga asana practice is a discipline through which the student may develop strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination among other benefits, including calmness and resolution. The practice rewards the aspirant who regularly engages in a routine that may be acquired from a teacher in classes. Age or stiffness need not be a hindrance as the teacher is generally able to assist the participant in adapting asanas to their individual need. All adults are welcome for classes/workshop listed below.

Class attire is bare feet, shorts or footless tights and tee shirt. No perfume. No heavy jewelry. Do not eat a meal two hours prior to doing yoga. Do not come to class if you have a contagious condition. Please be on time. Class begins promptly at the published class time.
Workshop events will be announced in separate flyers for specialty topics, visiting teachers, beginning and advanced levels.Driving directions: Arsha Vidya Gurukulam is an institute devoted to the study and teaching of Vedanta, Sanskrit and Yoga. It is located in Saylorsburg just off Route 33 on old Route 115, next door to Saylorsburg Lumber and across the road from the Blue Ridge Flea Market. Come in the paved driveway and progress to the back of the campus to the big red building fronted by a parking lot. This is the Activities Center. The yoga studio is on the second floor. Please enter by the downstairs door.

Tuesday Yoga with Diana Erney 6:30 pm to 8 pm [classes will not meet on 9/10 and 9/24]. For up to date schedule, refer to class schedule.

1st & 3rd Wednesday of the month Yoga with Irene 11 am to 12:15 pm. For up to date schedule, refer to class schedule.

2019 Yoga Workshops

May 3-5, Level I/II Yoga Course with Bobbie Fultz

A certified Iyengar teacher currently based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Bobbie was the resident yoga teacher at AVG for 8 years. A beginning level weekend covering asanas from the Preliminary Course of the Iyengar Method of Yoga. Previous experience needed for Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning classes.

May 17-19 Iyengar Yoga Retreat with Rebecca Hooper 
A weekend of yoga with Rebecca Hooper, a Junior Intermediate 2 Iyengar Yoga teacher
and Yoga Therapist. Suitable for those with at least 1 years practice in yoga.

May 31-Jun 2, Therapeutic Yoga & Mindfulness for Chronic back Pain, Julia Lorimer, e-RYT-500

The focus of this workshop conducted by Julia Lorimer, a certified Yoga instructor specializing in pain relief for 30 years, is to offer relief to people with mild to moderate low back pain through therapeutic yoga and mindfulness. There will be personalized instruction and use of simple props to give mild support and traction in a gentle manner. Dr. Ashok Chhabra,  a licensed Psychologist will conduct a mindfulness session each morning. June 20-23, Summer Solstice*, Janet McLeod & Patricia Layton

In this four-day workshop eclipsed by the solstice, Janet’s skillful sequencing and use of props will help you reach new levels of awareness in your practice. Sept 4-11 Yoga & Sound with Yogi Ramanand Patel & Pandit Mukesh Desai

Absorption into sound while in yoga poses enables the breath to flow more freely bringing inner peace that leads the aspirant to merge with the formless. Discourses in Vedanta bring a deeper understanding of the Self.

Oct 18-20, Level I/II Yoga Course with Bobbie Fultz

Fall Iyengar Yoga Series with Diana Erney 
A series of 3 Saturday morning classes from 10 am to 12:30 pm:
October 12-an exploration of backbends,
November 9- yoga on the ropes,
December 7— 5th annual holiday restoratives and pranayama benefit class.

 

* At least 6 months of previous, consistent yoga asana practice are required to attend these courses.
