DESCRIPTON:
This upaniṣad, the shortest of the ten major upaniṣads, unfolds the nature of ātmā as the truth of the individual and its identity with Brahman, the ultimate reality through an analysis of the three states of consciousness – waking, dreaming, and deep sleep – and their underlying reality, known as turīya. The sacred syllable Om represents these four, thus serving as a bridge to realize the non-dual, pure consciousness that is the self.
