*Shodasi is based on the Prasna 6th Chapter describes a person as consisting of sixteen Kalas. The Upanishad talks of shodasa Kalahpurusha as existing in the body in the lotus of the heart. A jnani is aware of this shodasa Kala Purusha from whom Jagat comes out, in whom it is sustained and unto whom it goes back. So sixteen sadhus are invited on the 16th day and offered bhiksha with sixteen items to indicate this fact. It is customary to chant the first three chapters of Kathopansihad followed by Bhagavadgita 8th Ch. and Shanti mantras.
